WELCOME!
I
sincerely thank you for taking the time to surf the new Kairuku-Hiri
website.
As
the current parliamentary member of the Kairuku-Hiri people, I am pleased
to launch this very new website . Not only will this site provide useful
information on Kairuku-Hiri but also create investment opportunities
and promote tourism.
As
the leader of my people, I am responsible for all socio-economic development
in the district and also oversee the administrative functions of the
Kairuku-Hiri Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee
(JDP & BPC) in my capacity as the chairman.
Kairuku-Hiri
is located in Papua New Guinea. It has a land mass of approximately
10,060 square kilometres with over 400 villages and hamlets that are
inhabited by a population of over 78,784 people (2000 population census).
It is the biggest of the four districts in Central Province, comprising
four local level Government areas, namely Kairuku, Mekeo Kuni, Hiri
and Koiari. Dialects of these areas differ greatly but generally, majority
of the people use three of the nation's official languages, i.e Motu,
English and Pidgin.

The
Nation's Capital, Port Moresby is in the centre of Kairuku-Hiri and
accordingly, the people of Kairuku-Hiri have the privilege of supplying
to city dwellers much of their daily needs such as fresh garden produce,
seafood, betelnut, etc. Even, electricity and water for Port Moresby
emanate from Koiari in Kairuku-Hiri.
Over
half of my people live in rural communities and exist at subsistence
level. In many areas, very basic services are lacking and the public
infrastructure (roads, education, health, water supply) is in need of
repair.
The
National Government is presently pushing two significant projects that
are likely to commence in Kairuku-Hiri in the near future. They are
the Central City (Bautama) and the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) plant
(Papa).
Kairuku-Hiri
boasts some iconic tourism attractions, including the Hiri Moale Festival,
Kokoda Track, Rouna Waterfall, Loloata Island Resort and the Mekeo Dancers.
There
are many other attractions such as game fishing trips that you can arrange
through the Port Moresby Yacht Club or you can experience a real village
life in any of our many villages. There are diverse traditional values,
customs and culture to learn.
HAPPY
SURFING !
